As the European Union accelerates its push for green hydrogen production and applications, the importance of Proton Exchange Membranes (PEM) in this sector is becoming increasingly evident. In a pre-recorded speech at the Renewable Hydrogen Summit in Brussels, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU will fast-track policy development and scale up the green hydrogen industry. According to her plan, the EU aims to produce 10 million tons of hydrogen by 2030 and import another 10 million tons annually. This ambitious goal will not only drive the growth of the hydrogen sector but also increase the demand for hydrogen technologies and equipment.
As a manufacturer of PEMs, our products play a critical role in this growing industry. PEMs are a core component in hydrogen production, especially in water electrolysis processes, thanks to their excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and high energy conversion efficiency. PEMs significantly enhance the efficiency of electrolyzers, supporting the production of green hydrogen.
With the EU taking a leading role in the global green hydrogen strategy, the demand for PEMs is expected to grow steadily. We are committed to providing high-performance PEM membranes to the hydrogen industry, supporting the efficient operation of various stages from hydrogen production to storage and transportation. Through our innovative products, we help our clients tackle the challenges in the hydrogen sector and contribute to the global clean energy transition.
President von der Leyen highlighted that 11 large-scale renewable hydrogen projects in the EU have entered the final investment decision (FID) phase, compared to only 2 projects in the U.S., marking the EU’s leadership in the global hydrogen industry. Our PEM products are key components in these global green energy projects, providing strong support to hydrogen initiatives in the EU and worldwide.
